A croupier or dealer sends a ball around a spinning wheel with numbered slots in
it. As long as the wheel is spinning, betting can continue. This is a game of
chance because there is no way of knowing in which slot the ball will drop.
There are two different versions of Roulette: American and European. In contrast
to the European version (with 36 numbers and one zero) the Americans add a
second zero. The order of numbers on the wheel is also different.
How to Play Roulette
1) You will place your marker/gambling token on the Roulette table
corresponding to the number on the wheel.
2) Betting continues until the croupier says 'No more bets' – when the
ball is about to drop into a slot.
3) Once the winning number is know, the croupier collects all the
losing bets and pays the winners.
4) Placing a token close to a winning number will also pay you some
money.
The house advantage Casinos with one zero on their wheel
have a 2.7% advantage. Those with two zeros have a 5.26% advantage. Generally
casinos with a higher advantage offer better odds to attract gamblers.
'En Prison' rule Being En Prison (in prison) means that
when the ball lands on the zero you can choose to get half your bet back or
leave the whole amount on the table for a second (and final) round.
'La Partage' rule Having La Partage (sharing) means that
when the ball lands on the zero all you can do is take back half your bet.
Roulette payouts If you make a 'Straight-Up' bet
(betting on one number alone) you can enjoy 35:1 payment odds. In the case of a
House Advantage, you'll get 37:1 for European Roulette and 38:1 for American
Roulette.
The greater the numbers, the smaller the odds
